For
the first time in the history of instrument making, Selmer Paris is
offering musicians unique collectors edition instruments. "Tribute to
Bird" is a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the death of the legendary
Charlie Parker (1920-1955) and a tribute to the innovative approach with which
he inspired the world of Jazz.
Each year, for the next 5 years, a limited edition Reference Alto will be produced. Each will feature an original engraved design, specific to a different continent.
Hummingbird/America will be limited to 2005 production only. Two versions are available: The Hummingbird and the Hummingbird Collector edition (featured here).
Features:
The bore is specific to the Reference Alto evoking the tone of the legendary 1950's Mk VI alto sax.
The neck features a difference angle and bore to ensure great tonal flexibility and is decorated with special "Bird" engraving.
The keywork is compact to ensure excellent playing comfort and is finished with genuine mother of pearl buttons.
The leather pads feature a plastic booster which contributes to the roundness of the sound.
The engraving is extensive and of the highest quality, undertaken by Selmer's master engraver.

The "Super Session" hard rubber mouthpiece especially designed for Jazz players looking for power, projection and flexibility without aggressiveness. Choice of D, E or F lay.
A specific "Bird" ligature made especially by Ligaphone optimises the instruments' acoustic qualities.
The "Bird" case, a compact luxurious case combines design and technical innovation.
A silk embroidered accessory pouch completes the luxurious package.
The Hummingbird is finished in a honey gold lacquer and supplied in a new style rectangular case. "Bird" engraving on the bell.
The Hummingbird Collector Edition (pictured here) is finished in a rich dark lacquer and supplied with the "Bird" case and silk embroidered accessory pouch. Extensive "BIrd" engraving on bow, bell, body and crook.
