"Like most companies, P.Mauriat boasts of having the "vintage" sound for which people search. Unlike most other companies, I believe they might have just found it."
-Jazz Times

"Finally someone has produced a horn that is as close as it gets to a Selmer MK6 with the reliability of a modern instrument. The Mauriat horns are not only a pleasure to play with their spot on intonation and warm, full, vintage sound but they look and feel fantastic too. The quality of the action and the meticulous attention to detail is something that far surpasses anything I have ever experienced in a modern horn. Many sax makers these days claim to have ‘the Selmer sound and feel’ but in reality, rarely live up to it. P. Mauriat seem to have it bang on and its great to be able to go into the studio and have a warm vintage sound without the rattles and clanks of an old horn. A truly superb sax!!" Ben Appleby www.benappleby.co.uk

"At last a new horn that sounds and feels really exceptional - just like a vintage Mk6 but new and with a big booty sound - the weight is great as is the response - tuning is perfect and there is that woody/grainy thing in the sound that I've only previously found in my old Selmers ... fantastic !" Andy Sheppard - March 07 www.andysheppard.co.uk

'My PMauriat PMXA-67R is real pleasure to play. My sound has opened up since I started playing it and I can hear a richness fullness and depth that with practice I can get from this superbly made instrument. It plays better than any horn I've ever played, with consistency in strength of tone right across the range that opens up all possibilities, this is the horn I've been waiting for.' -Nathaniel Facey EMPIRICAL. www.empiricalmusic.com

Of all the new horns I have tried the Mauriat is the only one versatile to excel in every context, while still possessing the character to allow a personal sound." - Mornington lockett, London 28/8/07 www.morningtonlockett.co.uk

Praise for P.Mauriat saxes from the players..........

"Just a quick note to say a big thank you again for your brilliant service. The new Mauriat crook for my alto makes such a different - a nice edge, more projection and it seems faster somehow - don't know how that works but there you go. Pretty amazing as it looks just like the old one from the outside! My Meyer G mouthpiece is phenomenal on it. Mauriats seem to like Meyer mouthpieces but they all sound good actually - just like on the tenor. The saxello is just amazing, it really is - I'm running out of superlatives already! No, seriously, I've had a problem with sopranos (Yanagisawa and Selmer) - two things - intonation in the upper register and that horrible nasal, oboe sound in the lower register. This does it on both counts and I am very impressed at this price. Intonation is effortless, I have never sounded so good - and the sound is saxophone all the way - not a hint of the dreaded oboe blues! Key work is just wonderful and sits under the fingers really well - feels very comfortable - smaller somehow or maybe just more accessible. Thanks again, I am very grateful. Say a big thank you to Jules for the chat on the phone about this lovely instrument. Your service and advice are second to none. Kind regards, Ken"

"I own a mauriat tenor. Love it. I traded my Selmer series 2 for it .....They have a very dark full sound. I recommend anyone at least give them a try."

"I was able to play one one of them and it has an awesome sound for both jazz and concert its very versatile sp? I also tested it for intonation and i was very pleased to fine ALL 3 C#'S IN TUNE. Including the rest of the horn. The low B flats came out with out much more than a breath it was awesome. The dealer that let me play also let me compare it to the Selmer paris and I found them to be almost exactly the same for half the price. Overall what i can say is this instrument was very well made and is perfect for anyone looking for a step up model."

"When I wanted to step up from the Cannonball I tried about 8 tenors. I went with the Selmer Series II for awhile but found the Mauriats to have way better intonation, and overall sound."

"P. Mauriat saxes play very well in tune with a very nice tone quality and superb projection. Especially, the 'Pro Artist' model (the one that looks very much like Selmer's Ref.54). I played the P.Mauriat tenor sax up against my 'Great Three Tenors' that are MKVI, Ref.54 and SIII. The P.Mauriat could really fight strongly against those French saxes with no disgracing at all!"

I bought a P. Mauriat soprano last summer, and this brand really surprised me, the horn really sings !! I used to be a big fan of those pricey Yanagisawa, until I tried P. Mauriat, very good intonation, and have that "ring" sound in it.......

"The low end resonates better than any horn I've ever played. Blowing a low C is as easy as blowing a middle C. It really resonates well, with no stuffiness, no gurgling, nothing, just the note that Adolph intended. The high end (specifically the palm keys) aren't thin like most other horns. They really have a great fat sound to them. Even into the alt range. The intonation on these horns is dead-on. The lower RH stack is a little flat, but not bad, easy to lip up. The mid C-C#-D is REALLY well in tune. I was amazed while watching the tuner, I'm used to working a lot harder. They respond (and overall play) as well as, if not better, than any other horn that I've ever played. And at the price that they're being offered, they're a steal, I feel like I should be paying twice as much for the horn as I am."

"I'm really considering going all Mauriat with my horns. I've owned two Keilwerth SX90R's, a low-digit Mark VII, a Buescher 'Big B' Aristocrat, and a Conn Chu Berry. This horn blew them all away. It's suitable for both classical and jazz playing."

"I tried the p.mauriat ....and it sounds fantastic. I think the intonation is fine, and it sounds nice, big!!! and of course, the price is something that able to move everybody heart to get one of this horns."

"I think this horn smokes the Ref 54 tenor. The P. Mauriat's got the dark, powerful sound of my Martin with modern ergonomics. I'm sold. This is the next sax I'm buying. I think this horn competes with ANY horn on the market."

"I got a chance to play a P. Mauriat soprano sax... One word, "WOW!!!" If I have money at the moment, I would take it right away without any hesitates... It's absolutely beautiful: control, response; tone... The action is fast, I mean REALLY FAST. It responds so fast that the moment I finger a note, I immediately feel the response, the vibration and the note just speaks...  The tone is what I'm looking for. I always look for a spreading kind of tone, and this is it. It can fill the whole room easily, without the harsh."

"The Mauriat tenor was a very pleasant surprise. It is very much a series II clone except the tone is a little warmer and spread. The Mauriat was waaaayyy easier for me to blow than those Reference horns."

"I think these horns are a real contender, especially if you consider the price. The thing I always fear when looking at saxes in that price range is that they will sound like a student horn with a thin and weak tone quality. But that wasn't the case at all. There is really a core to the sound that will project just fine. It does have the full, sultry, enveloping sound that puts it in the professional sax category. It's the real deal."

"...the thing I like the best about P. Mauriat sax is that they just blow so freely and easily, the notes just pop out and you can feel the vibration the moment you blow..."

"The P. Mauriat is the first modern sax I've played that gives me the same thrill from hearing the sound of a tenor as my Martin."
