Hawk Bass Saxophone
(pictured next to a curved soprano!)
Big sounds for your pounds! Yes, a Bb bass sax for
£3,500. Supplied in a shaped hard case with wheels, mouthpiece and two necks
to take bass or baritone mouthpiece.
It’s Big,
It’s Loud, and it’s proud of its origin. Yes ladies and gentlemen, we have a
bass that's from China and is way below £4000. Now, I know we go on about not
going near Chinese saxophones as they are no good, but this is on a league of
it’s own. This Hawk Bass doesn’t feel like it’s Chinese made, as the mechanism
and the ergonomics of the instrument feel solid as anything. Secondly, it
actually plays, yes folks you can actually get a great sound out of a Chinese
horn… finally!
The overall feel of the instrument is big, but
what do you expect from the Queen (As Contra-bass would be the king) of all
Saxes. The mechanism feels smooth, and you can get around the instrument with
speed as you get more use to where to lay your
fingers.
Sound wise, I feel that
this does have a lovely smooth sound on its higher end; it isn’t too harsh when
you play it up there, and the intonation seems pretty on the ball with no
embouchure adjustment. When you start hitting the lower notes, that’s where it
starts coming out on its own, exactly what you want from a bass. Big, loud (yet
controllable), full, rich sound, which is just what you need for such a low
instrument. Available to try in London and Crowborough.
P.Mauriat
300UL Low A- Unlacquered Baritone
The P. Mauriat range of horns has
always had the feel of vintage saxes and this is, in many ways, just taking
things to their logical conclusion- an unlacquered range. Now exactly what
effect the lack of lacquer has is a hotly debated topic it is quite clear
that the 300UL has a somewhat different quality to the other finishes in the
Mauriat range.
This horn is incredibly free blowing, it is certainly up there with the
Yanagisawa range for effortless response. At low volumes it plays warm,
light and rich (very Gerry Mulligan) while when a lot of air is put through
it can roar like a lion with the right mouthpiece (Mauriats in general seem
to love having a lot of air put through them- really responding well when
played powerfully, and the 300UL is no exception). Right from top to bottom
the intonation is good and there's a fullness to it's sound which separates
it from most modern
Kenny G
Soprano Saxophones. G Series and E Series
The
G-Series
Vintage Lacquer Soprano Saxophone stands
alone in the modern world of soprano saxophones.
Featuring:
Italian Leather
Kenny G Signature
Pads,
1 piece body
construction with bore patterned after the soprano Kenny plays,
Vintage style left hand little finger keys and tone holes.
Front harmonic F key. The unique design of this new key features
the opening of the palm E key by the harmonic key instead of the traditional
opening of the palm F key. This makes the Front F or harmonic fingerings
respond faster, have a better tone colour
and play more in tune.

Wow...First, this is by far the most
beautiful sax I saw - abalone keys, vintage lacquer and beautiful hand
engravings make this sax something to be respected before a note has
been played And each note just...plays! There's so much warmth in the
tone and so much character - this sax will suit all styles and all types
of players. I tried Selmers, Yanagisawas, Yamaha Customs and even some
Rampone Cazzari's but the 67R outdid them all! Fantastic service guys -
I was expecting a few days till delivery cos I know how hard you work
but it was in my hands just over a day later than I ordered it! Thanks
so much for a great day trying saxes and amazingly fast delivery :D

Just wanted to let you know that our sax arrived this morning- less than a
week from when I ordered it! We couldn't have got one from our local
music store as fast as that. We are very impressed with the professional
service right from the start to the final delivery. There is always a degree
of nervousness when buying something from overseas and over the internet so
I was relieved and impressed by sax.co.uk and will recommend you to anyone I
know looking for a sax. We actually saved a substantial amount by buying the
sax from you. Funnily enough the sax was processed at your end by 'Bill' and
our son Billy will be playing it! Anyway we just wanted to say a
really big THANK YOU. Yours Sincerely, Susan Kilbride (Australia)
