Unique special exhibition model hand made for the 2008 Frankfurt Music Show. Solid silver body with 24KT gold plating to outer body and keys. Hand chiselled flower decoration by Rampone owner Claudio . Mouthpiece & accessories included. Supplied with a Rampone Deluxe case."My first impressions are of a soprano that plays effortlessly, with that typical breadth of sound that you associate with Rampone and Cazzani. The bottom register has a particularly open and 'chunky' sound, which is something that personally appeals to me as I think that this can be a very expressive part of the soprano voice! One of the acoustic qualities of solid silver is that it seems to widen the harmonic spectrum, such that you get more in the way of both the low and the high frequencies - in practical terms this means that there is added depth and brightness; I always find that the greater the air pressure, the greater the brightness, and it seems to be no exception here. I remember trying a silver-plated version of this instrument at the Frankfurt music fair earlier this year and it didn't seem to have quite the same crispness and satisfaction of tone as the gold plated version, so the plating must account for a certain amount of the final result! It's also worth mentioning that the tone feels consistent and effortless as you play through the registers - no grey spots or duff areas! The intonation is also highly accurate - I compared it with a top Yanagisawa to make sure (although I found that the mouthpiece position needs to be more central on the cork in order to play at 440 pitch, whereas with the Yani it needs to be positioned most of the way down the cork).Overall, this sax is a beauty, and I thoroughly recommend anyone looking at top-end sopranos to come down and give this one a test-drive!" jim@sax.co.uk
