(sak-su Japanese - sax, saxophone)

What a great looking sax...and that's just the beginning!

OK, us "serious" musicians are not supposed to be concerned by looks but it does help if it makes your heart flutter when you open the case.

Made by the well respected Elkhart company to our specification with an emphasis on making life easy for the beginner and at accessible prices. We are in a great position to recognise the shortcomings of cheaper saxes having years of experience supplying thousands of student saxes.

Here is part of the design brief for the Sakkusu:

  • Comfort. Good ergonomics so keys fall naturally under the fingers and fit the hands. Too many student saxes are based on uncomfortable old designs.

  • Strength. High grade strong brass, unlike some cheaper saxes made from soft brass that bends too easily.

  • Free blowing. Good quality pads well set up to ensure the horn blows freely from top to bottom.

  • Accurate intonation (tuning). This makes the learning experience far easier, in contrast to some entry level instruments that have completely unacceptable tuning.

  • High F# key. Standard these days.

  • High quality lacquer. To protect and keep the sax looking good for many years. A rich gold lacquer for the traditionalists and an alternative solid black lacquer with sexy black pearl buttons.

Accessories

Most sax makers give you the fewest and least expensive accessories that they can get away with. Sometimes it's a mouthpiece that belongs in the bin, an uncomfortable thin strap and an ugly wooden case. By contrast, here's the Sakkusu accessory list:

  • A YAMAHA mouthpiece. Widely regarded as the best beginner's model in the world. Fitted with a rubber patch for added comfort.

  • Comfortable neck strap. 2" wide, embroidered & padded.

  • A stylish modern hard case with back-pack straps and outside pocket large enough for music books. (not curved soprano). Baritone cases are tough ABS with built in wheels!

  • 2 reeds, lacquer cloth & cork grease.

  • Metal sax stand. (alto & tenor only)

All Alto & Tenor Sax-Packs are supplied with the YOU CAN PLAY TOO! tuition DVD.

This excellent DVD is aimed firmly at the beginner. Whatever style you eventually want to play, the basics have to be learned. Too many people give up at this stage because the learning can be laborious and discouraging. This DVD makes learning interesting and fun. It may take weeks or months to master techniques contained within the DVD but there is no time limit, work at your own pace and enjoy the process.

Filmed on location in 2008 at sax.co.uk (the saxophone temple!) in Crowborough, East Sussex and featuring our own Jim Cheek. This tuitional DVD is the result of many years playing, teaching and consulting with teachers and players. Having shown thousands of people how to get started, the team here at sax.co.uk are in an ideal position to help give you the best possible start.

The DVD takes you from the absolute beginning and assumes you have no knowledge of the sax or reading music. It will quickly get you playing your first tunes and culminates in a really fun blues improvisation track where you play along with a "live" band.

All this, a 2 year guarantee and FREE UK mainland delivery. Oh yes, and you can even hire them from just £25 per month!
